Where the harm is concentrated · Lorenz curve

This is a Lorenz curve (a concentration curve, also used to measure income inequality). Streets are ranked from most to least dangerous, left to right; the curve shows what cumulative share of the harm (vertical) sits on what cumulative share of street-miles (horizontal). The dashed line marks a perfectly even spread. The Gini coefficient (0 = even, 1 = all harm on one street) summarizes the full curve in a single value, independent of any cutoff. The purple 6% marker is the size of the City's High Injury Network, shown for comparison. The metric counts where harm occurs, not crashes per mile driven, so part of the concentration reflects that traffic is also concentrated. On the streets with traffic counts, the harm remains about as concentrated after adjusting for vehicle-miles traveled, which indicates specific dangerous roads rather than traffic volume alone.
